Rwanda's tea sector has achieved a significant milestone with exports reaching $96 million in the first half of 2026. The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) attributes this growth to improved processing standards, favorable weather conditions, and strong demand from key markets including Pakistan, UK, and Egypt.
The country produced over 15,000 metric tonnes during this period, with CTC grades commanding premium prices at the Mombasa Tea Auction. Orthodox and specialty teas also saw increased demand from European buyers seeking single-origin products.
Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ildephonse Musafiri noted that ongoing investments in factory modernization and farmer training programs have been instrumental in improving both quantity and quality of output.
