Founded in 2010 and legally registered in 2012, RTA has grown into a critical institutional actor uniting every stakeholder in Rwanda's tea value chain.
The Rwanda Tea Association was founded in 2010 and legally registered in 2012 with the objective of uniting all stakeholders in the tea value chain under a common platform. Since its inception, RTA has grown into a critical institutional actor in the tea industry advocating for the sector's interests, enhancing capacity, and supporting innovation and sustainability.
A significant turning point came in October 2024 when, with support from USAID / Feed the Future Rwanda / Kungahara Wagura Amasoko, RTA established its first fully functional Secretariat. The recruitment of a Secretary General marked a new phase of professionalization, strategic realignment and operational expansion.
RTA is a legally registered NGO governed by its Constitution (signed 3 October 2014) and aligned with national laws.
