The world's two largest tea producers have agreed to collaborate on climate-resilient cultivar development and pest management research.
China and India have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint tea research program focused on developing climate-resilient tea cultivars and integrated pest management strategies. The program, expected to run for five years, will involve researchers from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and India's Tea Research Association.
While the primary beneficiaries will be Chinese and Indian growers, the program's findings will be published openly, allowing producers in Africa to adapt the research for local conditions. RTA's technical committee has expressed interest in participating in knowledge-sharing workshops planned for 2027.
